About Shelby Suhan

Training

I received a diploma in Contemporary Music and Technology as a vocal performance major from Selkirk College. I spent four years as a student under Falconer Abraham (Free Your Voice) where I was first introduced to 'speech based' concepts such as Speech Level Singing (Seth Riggs), Singing Success (Brett Manning), and Voice of the Mind (E. Herbert-Caesari), and was later taken on as a teaching apprentice under Abraham in 2013. From 2014–2017, I studied at the Institute for Vocal Advancement, where I became certified as a Level 2 Instructor and spent my final year as the IVA Canada/Northwest US Area Representative. In October 2018, I studied with NYC-based artist J. Hoard, whose methodologies helped me expand my understanding of the critical role that nasal resonance plays in accessing the 'effortless voice.'

Performance Experience

Over the past decade, I have spent time on stage leading my own R&B cover group and performing as a background singer for various acts, including: Shawn Hook, Adria Kain, and the Toronto corporate group “The Collective” (Jully Black, Melanie Durrant, and Sean Jones). Today, I focus on operating my vocal teaching studio in Toronto and pursuing an HBSc in Psychology at the University of Toronto.
